I turn my head slowly to the right, my eyes tilted downward toward her cheek. Her left palm gently wraps around the back of my head, massaging it lightly with her fingernails. She has a few freckles that I’ve never noticed, one of them far more prominent than the most.
“I never knew you had freckles,” I tell her.
She giggles softly as her head turns downward. She looks left, allowing her eyes to meet mine, at the same spot where her cheek once was. Onyx pupils look up at me as an impish grin curves just below.
“I have more, you know,” she says. “Would you like to see them?”
