Grainy Grit

Hey you, simple clover of the sun
Your face so soft like ivory, hun
Dashing, Dashing, smooth as they ever come
Is that tweed, some herringbone, tartan

No, golden buttons tarnished like bronze
Copper that is hit, warm hot cross buns
Earls and Duchess, two silver peas
Talk Mayflowers and an R.M.S.

Is it Liverpool, no I.R.A.
Braveheart the Wallace, Henry the Eight
Spade it, hate it, take it, queens for you
Wild Martin never knew fire burnt

Dear Readers,

It's been about 4 years now since The Last Bite first started. In the beginning, it was an outlet to write about food and whatever other musings I felt like sharing. There were articles I wrote, photos I took and moments I cared to share with the world. Over the next few months, the posting of articles tapered off and eventually beer reviews began to pop up. Paris came around and the the creative writing spilled in, "journal-like" entries and bits of poetry. There was lots cheap wine and lots of bread. Pastries too. I believe I chose to add photos of inspiration sometime around then, maybe it was February of 2009. Eventually, the photos of inspiration took over and the writing was few and far in-between. Novellas began to show monthly, then bi-monthly. Soon enough, there was no writing at all. The photographs took over, the videos came into play and the posts popped up much more frequently - there was a stint when it was almost everyday in a formulaic combination of 5 photos, 5 videos. If you've been following the blog for awhile, you probably have noticed this. Frankly, it's not too complicated, right?

Folks have asked, why do you do it? Who do you do it for? It would be a lie to say I don't do it for myself, but of course that's not the sole reason. In truth, it's for you and everybody else that wants a good dose of art, culture and food. We see millions of images throughout our lives, so why not focus on a few really good ones for at least a day? Beauty is around us and unless we capture it, focus upon it and share it with others, there is the chance that it will escape into the darkness of history. I sincerely hope that I've been able to inspire some of you out there, as I surely have by the photos I've culled throughout the years. It's a process, no doubt, but it also has its bit of randomness thrown in for an extra kick of spontaneity.

What once was a small time hobby has since grown into a global connector. With hits from all over, I'd like to think that even without words or nods of approval, I've done an alright job of sharing what I personally enjoy with others. Whether you're an artist, a writer, a "creative type" or just a curious individual, cheers to you for stopping by. This note, after quite a number of posts without words, was to merely say "Yo," "Hello," "Marhaban," or even a "Namaste." Truly, thanks to everyone from all over - no matter how many times you visit. I'll keep on postin' as long as you keep comin'. Or maybe, well, I'll keep posting no matter what.

La Poularde,
BJH
